Max Einstein The Genius Experiment…These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Max Einstein The Genius Experiment by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein

1st Favorite Thing- I love that Max’s hero is Albert Einstein. Max is the main character in this story and she loves all things Albert Einstein.

2nd Favorite Thing- Max is always looking out for other people. This is something that is seen through out the book. She is secure in what she knows (which is a lot), but at the same time she is mindful of how her decisions impact others.

3rd Favorite Thing- The book takes place in New York City, Israel, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I liked that the authors exposed readers to different places around the world.

4th Favorite Thing- In the book, Max is given the opportunity to choose which problem around the world she would like to solve with her team. She identifies a problem, finds a way with her team to solve the problem, and then works with her team to work through a challenge when it arises. The book provides an excellent opportunity for a teacher to either discuss the problem solving process they use in the book or to help students identify a problem somewhere around the globe that they would like to solve and work through how they would solve the problem.

5th Favorite- The team that Max assembles to help her solve her problem are kids who come from the different backgrounds and have different personalities. This leads to some challenges at times that they need to work through. Again, I think this book provides in excellent opportunity to discuss with a class that we all bring different experiences to the classroom and sometimes we have to work through the conflicts that arise from seeing things differently. That being said, it can be done and often when we can identify people’s strengths and focus on utilizing those strengths then great things can be done.
